Carrying Flat

The carrying flat is a precision-machined flat surface integrated into a
mechanical component to provide a stable and secure contact area during lifting, handling, or positioning operations. It is designed to ensure proper load distribution and prevent slippage when the equipment is supported, clamped, or transported.

Typically manufactured as part of the main casting or frame, the carrying flat is
dimensionally controlled to maintain surface parallelism and flatness within specified tolerances. This ensures accurate alignment during installation and safe interaction with lifting devices, brackets, or support structures. The surface may be reinforced to withstand localized stress and mechanical loads generated during handling.

Key Design Elements

Design: A simple two-bracket system (one per side) that supports a single
horizontal roller.

  • Mounting: Usually L-shaped with "drop-in" slots for quick roller replacement.

  •  Adjustment: Features slotted holes to allow for "squaring" the roller, which is

vital for belt tracking.

  •  Shaft Fit: Uses hexagonal or D-shaped holes to lock the roller shaft in place,

preventing it from spinning and wearing the bracket.

  •  Common Finishes: Powder-coated steel for indoor sorting or Galvanized

steel for durability in warehouses.

Depending on the application and environmental requirements, the carrying flat may be
treated with protective coating or corrosion-resistant finishes to enhance durability. By
providing a reliable and stable support interface, the carrying flat improves operational
safety, facilitates easier maintenance, and reduces the risk of equipment damage during
transportation and assembly.
